GOTD Result: 4-14-2024

Score: Milwaukee Brewers - 4 @ Baltimore Orioles - 6

GOTD Result: WIN

GOTD Record: 9-3

Recap:

What a battle we witnessed in Baltimore.  The new look Brewers continue to rake and put pressure on opposing rotations.  Corbin Burnes battled through five innings, giving up the two earned runs almost seemed like a win for him.  Yelich or no Yelich, the Brewers are putting bat on ball early and often in 2024.  A game that featured a few different ties, and lead changes, was sealed in the bottom of the eighth with a Colton Cowser solo shot.  The Brewers took a 4-3 lead in the top of the seventh with a timely Blake Perkins homerun.  That lead was taken care of in short order by a combination of Adley Rutschmann and Gunnar Henderson.  Jackson Holliday recorded his first professional hit, a single into the outfield.  This was a balanced offensive game, the tilt came with the Orioles bullpen.  A combination of four relievers fought through four innings of work, giving up only one earned run.  Given the recent nature of the Brewers offense, it was all hands on deck in order to get a much needed win for the birds.  The Brewers pitching failed them to an extent that the offense just couldn’t make up.  What a GOTD for you all, I am hesitant to say the Brewers are official but a couple more series like this and I will have no choice.  Regardless, our win streak pushes on to five, as a result, and we are happy and looking forward to six!

News Around the League: 4-15-2024

The Braves and the Marlins had a slug fest in Miami, the Braves holding on for the 9-7 win.  Marcell Ozuna of the Braves has been an early stud and showed that last night, going 3-5 and single handedly turning around a 7-5 deficit.  Ozuna has shown the ability to be a difference maker in the past, but this is a new level of Ozuna.  The rich get richer, and the Braves certainly don’t need another MVP level caliber player on their team.  Another great story, the Oakland Athletics, who continue to win games and push towards a .500 record.  Last night looked like another A’s beating, but something magic happened in the bottom of the sixth.  With the minimal home crowd filing out, the A’s turned a 6-1 deficit around all in one half inning.  Three singles, a walk with bases loaded, and a wild pitch later, the A’s fought back to take a 7-6 lead, ultimately representing the final score.  Going 6-4 in their last ten games, the Athletics are showing signs of life within a franchise that has sold its soul.  I have a goal to watch a game at the A’s coliseum this season, looking forward to some A’s baseball!

Some more fresh news, Rafael Devers and Tyler O’Niell had a nasty collision going for a fly ball in shallow left field, this morning.  O’Niell, who has been an offensive revelation for the Red Sox this season, left the field bleeding from a laceration on his face.  Unknown the extent to his injury and whether he will miss any time.  Devers stayed in the game, which is some good news for the Red Sox.
