Game Recap:

Man, was I completely off with this game.  I owe an apology to both Spencer Arrighetti and Darius Vines, they combined to give up just three runs, outstanding work.  Arrighetting hit a batter with bases loaded to give the Braves a 2-1 lead, but you would expect the Astros offense to be able to provide more than one run of support, unfair.  After giving up an earned run in the bottom of the first inning, Darius Vines and company completely shut down the inconsistent Astros lineup.  In the top of the ninth, the Braves added a couple extra through singles and more singles.  The Astros offense has been extremely hot and cold to start 2024, leaning towards cold.  Jose Altuve seems to be the only guy who can hit the ball riding a streak of three consecutive games with three hits or more.  Yordan had a couple different chances with runners in scoring position to bring the Astros back but fell short.  Hader had a brutal top of the ninth giving up four runs which only further increased his ERA.  All around poor performance by the Astros which decisively canned my five game winning streak.  We move on!

Cincinnati Reds @ Seattle Mariners 9:40 PM E.T.

An interesting matchup highlights our current GOTD.  The up and coming Reds stick around in Seattle for the second of a three game set.  We have been waiting for the Mariners offense to wake up and they certainly did that in Game 1.  J.P. Crawford and Julio Rodriguez continue to struggle to begin 2024, expect their numbers to increase as the games go by.  For Julio to have just 12 hits in 63 at bats will not hold.  Fortunately, Jorge Polanco and Mitch Haniger pitched in three RBIs a piece, making the difference.  Elly De La Cruz has been a player to watch so far in 2024 for the Reds and is a significant reason why I favor this game for the spotlight.  A switch hitting shortstop with power, size, and speed, always fun to watch.  Beyond Elly, this Reds team is loaded with young talent, both offensive and defensive, and look to be powering towards a playoff appearance.  In addition to the offensive prowess, we have an impressive pitching duel on slate.  Hunter Greene for the Reds and Logan Gilbert for the Mariners represent a couple of the more talented young arms in the league.  Both throw heat and both always seem determined to go deep into games, great attributes to have for starting pitchers.  The Seattle faithful enjoyed the offensive explosion last night and are eager for more.  Unfortunately, they may have to take this game off.  I expect a bounce back from the Reds behind one of their formidable arms, let’s start a new streak!
