GOTD Result: Win

GOTD Record: 10-5

Game Recap:

It’s simple, when Cody Bellinger goes deep, the Cubs win.  I’m not sure how true that is, but it sure seems that way.  After a 12-11 battle of will, the Cubs found their arms and bounced back in a major way.  Ketel Marte continues his hot stretch after hitting another tank last night for a two game streak.  The first five innings of this game were very much back and forth.  Headed to the top of the sixth 2-2, I began to believe this was a battle of the bullpens all of a sudden.  Enter Cody Bellinger, a top of the sixth solo shot combined with a clutch eighth inning single to put the Cubs up two, sealed the deal.  Through eighteen games the Cubs are looking as impressive as I was hoping they would.  Arizona on the other hand has played .500 baseball to start 2024 and are looking for Corbin Carroll to improve on his mediocre .225 average.  Lourdes Gurriel Jr., Christian Walker, Eugenio Suarez, and Carroll combined to go 0-14 for Arizona.  Tough to win games when your 2-5 batters are producing zero offense.  Despite the lack of hitting, the Dbacks were still a competitive team which goes to show the talent level they possess.  On a positive note, we are back to our winning ways for the GOTD picks, guessing 10 out of 15 correct is pretty impressive, if I may say so myself.  Let’s keep it going!

GOTD 4–18-2024:

Arizona Diamondbacks @ San Francisco Giants 9:45 PM E.T.

I was very borderline on posting a GOTD for today.  The slate is not very strong, in terms of number of games, and a majority of the ones I would want to watch are during the work day.  If you are able to watch, I would key in on the Guardians and the Red Sox, the Guardians are becoming a team to watch.  Not an orthodox power house, they struggle at times to produce runs but they are a very balanced team and rely on that balance to win games.  This takes me to the night cap for this lovely Thursday, two teams with very high ambitions but average starts to the season.  The Giants are coming off of a clean series victory over the Marlins and are looking to become more consistent.  Additions of Matt Chapman, Jorge Soler, and Blake Snell are all still getting acclimated which, in turn, will boost this team’s morale.  I broke down the state of the Diamondbacks in my recap above so not going to dig too deep.  From a front office perspective, Arizona needs to see more consistency on the offensive end.  On the mound, the Dbacks are firing off young arm Ryne Nelson who has had a mediocre 2024 to this point.  Conversely, the Giants are rolling out their ace Logan Webb.  Logan Webb has been more dominant at home, over the years, so I will be giving the pitching nod to the Giants.  Now for my GOTD pick of the day, I am siding with the San Francisco Giants.  The combination of the pitching matchup and the Diamondbacks having to travel is giving me confidence in the California team.
