New York Mets @ Atlanta Braves 10:20 AM E.T.

04-9-2024 Recap:

I owe the Cardinals pitching an apology, yesterday they put on a masterclass in a close 3-0 win versus the Phillies.  This is how this team looks when the offense and defense aligns.  There is no doubting the talent level of the Cards, it is the inconsistency that kills them.  Last night, Sonny Gray made a statement in his Cards debut throwing five shutout innings on only 64 pitches.  As the season progresses expect his volume to increase, Gray was a borderline CY Young last year and proved he has plenty to show.  The Phillies had every opportunity to make a game out of it but continued to leave runners on base.  Disappointing start for the Phillies, offensively, Zach Wheeler and their bullpen did enough to keep them in it.  Trae Turner was the sole offensive bright spot going 2-3, the batting averages across the board aren’t terrible, it is the batting average with runners on that is important.  This also brings my win streak to two! I am seeing a trend here and I have a feeling today will put us into newfoundland.

One other quick note regarding league wide news, Jackson Holiday was just officially brought up to the majors.  This is a great sign for the Orioles who continue to generate great young talent, exciting times ahead.

4-10-2024 Game of the Day:

We have a divisional matchup for today’s GOTD, I have yet to highlight the Mets and this seems like a good spot to do it.  The Mets started off 2024 on a massive offensive slump but have since shown the ability to put bat on ball.  A series, in which many thought they had no chance at winning, now sits at 1-1 with two games in hand.  On the other hand, the Braves have started out hot and look like they are as advertised.  The starting rotation took a hit with Strider going down so that will remain a question mark for this Braves squad.  Today, the Mets are wheeling out Jose Quintana who has proven to be a talking point for this rotation.  The leftie had a strong 2023 and has started off 2024 on the right foot (Ha!).  Allan Winans will be getting his first start of the year for the Braves which is why I actually tilt the pitching matchup in favor of the Mets.  Given how potent this Braves offense is, the Mets will still have to produce some runs in order to have a chance.  So far in this series, they have done so.  I’m expecting runs and that is all that I am completely sure of.  I know I am on the verge of a new win streak but instead of taking the safe route, I am putting my faith in the Mets.  I think that Jose does enough in the first half of the game to give the Mets offense a chance to get ahead.  Regardless of the result, I am excited to see what happens in Atlanta tonight.

GOTD Record: 6-3

As I mentioned in my previous blog, I aim to get more comprehensive coverage of the games on Instagram, those should start flowing out this week so make sure to follow!
