04-8-2024 Recap:

It wouldn’t be a respectable recap if I didn’t speak on a ridiculous come back victory that occurred last night.  The Padres looked dead in the water after doing down eight runs to the Cubs early on.  With the result seemingly checked, the Padres decided that they wanted to make some noise in the bottom of the sixth, scoring seven runs to make it a one run game.  Cubs fans were happy to have a lead still at this point, but it didn’t last long.  Fernando Tatis Jr. launched a ball into the stands in the bottom of the eighth which led to a 9-8 victory.  What a night it was to be in San Diego.  Now for my GOTD recap, and what a dominant game by the Blue Jays.  Luis Castillo’s slow start for the Mariners continued as he was barely able to make it through five innings, but not before giving up four earned runs.  The story of the mound was with Jose Berrios, the Blue Jays pitcher went 6.2 innings of scoreless ball, giving up just four hits.  I know the Mariners have started the year out slow, but they have offensive talent nonetheless.  Vlad Guerrero and Bo Bichette have started the year on quite the cold spell at the plate.  They both woke up a bit for the Blue Jays last night going a combined 3-8, that should continue to improve as the year progresses.  With all of that being said, a new win streak has begun and new pastures to be grazed.  Hopefully this one takes me to the promised land of three in a row!

As a side note, I am going to be shifting these recaps to Instagram where I will be posting reels to discuss the results of prior day games.  In doing so, it will allow me to get more information out in much less time.  Easier on both sides.

 04-9-2024 Game of the Day:

For today’s GOTD, we have a pitching duel.  Zach Wheeler of the Phillies versus Sonny Gray of the Cards.  Sonny Gray is a name that hasn’t been called this year but he is absolutely no slouch.  Gray had a phenomenal year for the Twins in 2023 and was in the AL Cy Young conversation for most of the season.  This will be his first start in his new colors, the Cards need solid arms so this will be a big result for this team.  Zach Wheeler doesn’t need much introduction, he has been a horse for a couple of years now and 2024 is shaping up to be a lot of the same.  I would say these teams are similar offensively, the major decline for this Cards squad is in the bullpen.  The Phillies won the first game of the series 5-3 in an extra inning thriller last night.  To be fair, I was aggressively against the Cards this year and they have passed the eye test so far.  I don’t believe they are nearly as inconsistent as last year but that can also change.  For this one, I am going to ride with the Cards at home, something tells me they might wear the baby blues tonight.

GOTD Record: 5-3

As I stated previously, I will be posting more recap stuff on Instagram moving forward.  Those will be on our page @hottestoftakes and that will allow me to get more out.  I am going to shift the blog to be a major headline of the day along with the gold standard of the GOTD.   You can also subscribe by email on the main website where I will be sending out the blogs daily. As always, I hope you all have a great day and have the opportunity to watch some baseball!
