04-7-2024 Recap:

Officially back from my travels and itching to get back into some baseball.  I admittedly was not able to watch much yesterday, I did see a little of the Astros vs Rangers game so I will speak to that briefly.  Now I can say with full confidence that there are no remaining winless teams as the Marlins picked up their first win in emphatic fashion bludgeoning the Cards 10-3.  The Marlins aren’t nearly as bad as their record tells.  The first month of the season is typically not a great barometer for the rest of the season, I expect this team to round out as the pitching gets a bit healthier.  Plenty of pop in that lineup to get the job done any given night, next up for the Marlins is a tough series against a hot Yankees team.  Some other notes from yesterday that I noticed while analyzing the scoreboard, the Red Sox continue an impressive start to 2024 going 7-3 through their first ten.  It is being said that they have had a rather weak slate of opponents to begin and I would tend to agree with that.  The offense can’t be ignored but an upcoming series against the Orioles will be a great test.  Brewers are also proving me to be an idiot as they continue to slug their way through the first part of the season.  I have never been adept at getting a great read on the Brewers so I will be keeping my mouth shut the rest of the season.

Now for the part I never enjoy writing, my incorrect assumption on a GOTD.  Regardless, the game was energizing and shows the quality that lies in the National League.  I had picked the Diamondbacks hoping for a miracle, unfortunately the Braves had a different plan en route to a 5-2 win.  Chris Sale showed some backbone, giving up just two runs through 5.1 innings.  The Braves did their damage in typical Braves fashion scoring four of their runs on the long ball.  Goes to show the different ways in which this team can win.  My GOTD record drops to 4-3, time to start a new win train!

4-8-2024 Game of the Day:

The main reason behind my selection of this being the GOTD is due to the pitching matchup.  Luis Castillo, simply put, is a top three arm in the league.  Off to a slow start for the Mariners, he will get it going and that is why I like to highlight this one.  On the flip side, Jose Berrios is a fierce competitor and has found his footing thus far.  Both offenses are struggling to start the season, the Mariners have a team batting average of .213 and the Blue Jays are even worse at .193.  That does not speak true to the talent on these teams, both are stacked offensively and one can expect some positive regression.  I am keeping an open mind for this one, both offenses are going to wake up but I don’t think that is tonight.  Now for the golden decision, who do I like in this GOTD? Both teams find themselves in similar spots in 2024 and I am siding with the Blue Jays in this one.  Despite the Castillo aspect, the Jays have the talent to take a couple swings at him.

GOTD Record: 4-3
