What an exclamation mark by the Mets as they claim the first series against their division rival Braves. Jose Quintana did an excellent job yesterday, holding down the Braves through four innings which was more than enough time for the Mets to build a seven run lead. Winans had a brutal day and it was not aided by his defense as a couple of infield mistakes cost the team greatly. He finished five innings giving up six earned runs and eight hits, not very pretty. It was a Met’s show from the start and they carried it through the game tagging on nine more runs in the last three frames. Lindor’s struggles continued at the plate going 1-6, but that did nothing to hinder this offense. Tyrone Taylor hit a pinch hit grand slam in the top of the ninth to put a little extra on the Braves bullpen. Nothing impressive to speak on with regards to the Braves. Poor effort defensively which made the offensive production irrelevant.

News Around the League 4-12-2024:
The Royals continued their seismic beat down of the Astros yesterday. They capped off a convincing series win with a 13-2 trouncing of last year’s ALCS runner-ups. A nine run first inning put the home crowd at ease early. The Astros pitching struggles continue through the first few games of the season and should open some eyes in their front office. Typically a formidable bullpen and starting rotation has gotten systematically picked apart. Another surprising result, the soon to be Sacramento Athletics one hit the defending world champ Texas Rangers in a 1-0 victory. The A’s don’t have a lot of positives going for them but they play hard and Mason Miller is an absolute unit out of the bullpen. When you have 104 coming at you in the ninth inning, any lead feels safe. It has been a while since the A’s have had a stable arm to go to, hopefully he enjoys a long, healthy season. Surprisingly enough, the Athletics are actually above the Astros in the American League West standings.
The Ohtani gambling scandal also seems to be heating up as a previously reported four million dollars in stolen cash is now up to sixteen million. That is a staggering number and I am curious to see how the proceedings play out.
